Fix for OSX New Zealand Daylight Savings Time - NZDST changes

Apple does actually have a document on a fix for their timezone data for OSX, which will result in Macs set to use automatic time adjustment being an hour wrong for the next week or two. Unfortunately their workaround seems to be clear, point by point instructions for how to fix it your damn self, by manually changing the time until we are past the date when their TZ data is wrong. Hmm

There is also a third-party fix, which will update your TZ data, which I'd recommend over the fix above. It seems to work fine, and means you can keep the automatic time sync working too. No flash icon or anything, just does its job.

Strangely, searching Apple's site for the exact title of their support document detailing their workaround returns no matches. Perhaps this support document exists on a hidden level, accessible only by pressing the right magic bucky stroke at an appropriate time during the missing hour of DST transition.

Apple could easily have posted the same, or at least notified their NZ-based customers that this is available. (Of course, this issue could affect anyone outside NZ who is dealing with NZ and has a Mac too, so it really should be a global update to be safe.) After all, why bother asking where we are during registration, if you aren't going to use the information?

Not a major, easy to fix, but may indicate that Apple are getting large enough to make poor decisions - like deciding that NZ is not big enough to mandate a bugfix, if that is the reason that the updated timezone data to cover New Zealand Daylight Savings Time didn't get into the mix.

Most of my computers are running Ubuntu or Debian, which had the fixes rolled in in July/August (ubuntu launchpad entry). Yay Linux :)
